Religious Education
Each year group follows the ‘Grow in Love’ programme provided by Veritas which allows our children and their families to learn about faith in school and at home.
We celebrate Catholic Schools’ Week every January by hosting a series of events for our children, their families and the wider parish community. Our Year 4 and 7 children follow a programme of preparation prior to receiving two of the Sacraments of Initiation: Eucharist (Year 4) and Confirmation (Year 7). During Catholic Schools’ Week we have an Enrolment Ceremony for our Year 4 children and Service of Light for our Year 7 children which are celebrated by our parish priest Fr. Jimmy McGrory. In addition to receiving the sacrament of the Eucharist, we help our Year 4 children prepare for the Sacrament of Healing: Penance.
We have our own school prayer unique to St. John’s which is said daily by each year group in their classrooms and when we meet at whole school assemblies. Our school choir and instrumentalists enhance our religious services and Masses as we celebrate our faith during the school year.
Our school is very much part of the parish community of St. John’s as we attend Mass regularly alongside our family in faith. Each December our children in Years 4 to 7 host a Carol Service in our local church for our parish community as we prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas.
St. John’s P.S. is an inclusive and diverse school and we welcome potential pupils and their families of different or no faiths to be members of our school community.
